How to Spend 3 Kid-friendly Days in Savannah, Georgia
A few months ago we decided to road trip it and spend a weekend exploring Savannah! While we had visited the city before, we had never really taken the time to stay for a long weekend and get to know this classic southern city. My number one tip for a trip to Savannah is to choose carefully when you visit. We went the first weekend in October and it was perfect - warm enough to still swim in the pool and go to the beach, but not so hot and humid you couldn’t even fathom stepping outside!
Where to Stay
Hands down, The Perry Lane Hotel was amazing, especially if you have kids in tow! It was almost brand new when we were there and we were in awe! The service was top-notch, the staff so, so friendly, the location was perfect (and we are big on location) and the amenities make it so you never have to leave if you don’t want to. We were there on Elizabeth’s second birthday and the staff was so great and greeted her with a cupcake upon arrival - she was immediately sold!
The on-site restaurants and bars each have a character all their own. We were able to have dinner at The Emporium Kitchen and Wine Market, go upstairs and feel trendy with a few cocktails at Peregrin, the rooftop bar, and hang out late night at Wayward, the “neighborhood watering hole.” And have I mentioned the rooftop pool? This was Elizabeth’s favorite part of the whole trip! A great place to let the kids blow off steam, or just relax and enjoy a frose for yourself.
**I should note that the Perry Lane is not located on/near River Street, which is the big tourist destination in Savannah, but rather the hotel is situated in the heart of downtown, close to the historic squares the city is known for, as well as lots of coffee shops and restaurants. This was a plus for us and more our scene.
What To Do
Take a trolley tour - We did Old Savannah Tours and loved it! Good for the kids too!
Walk along River Street
Visit a Museum - Telfair Museum, SCAD Museum of Art, Jepson Center
Ride bikes around the city - *If you stay at Perry Lane, bikes are complimentary
Go to Forsyth Park
Walk through the many squares
Go to Tybee Island for the beach and Tybee Lighthouse
Hang at the pool with a cocktail
Shop on Broughton Street
Where to Eat
The Emporium Kitchen & Wine Market (hotel restaurant)
The Collins Quarter for Brunch
Obviously, these lists are not exhaustive. There is so much more to do, eat and see in Savannah! We are looking forward to more trips in the future!
Enjoy!
