Route 66, Arizona

Get Your Kicks on Route 66

November 16, 2015 by Amy Johns in Travel, USA, American Southwest

Established in 1926, Route 66 is the original American highway aka the Mother Road. In Arizona, the highway runs from California to New Mexico and, just outside of Peach Springs, Arizona, 66 enters the Hualapai Indian Reservation, where we started our hike to Havasupai. On the way, we experienced several different areas of Route 66 including Seligman, Peach Springs and Flagstaff. There is a lot to love about Route 66, just as long as you know what to expect. Here are a few do's and don't's for the road....

Do enjoy the ride! Possibly in a camaro convertible...

Don't expect to find a 5-star hotel. It's all about the nostalgia here. If you are staying the night on Route 66, just enjoy the experience. And spring for the cowboy themed room! You won't regret it!

Do eat at a greasy spoon. It's all about the unpredictable and not knowing what you're going to get!

Don't forget your camera. You wouldn't want to miss that photo-op with a trademark road sign.

Do make friends! Go to the town watering hole and sing karaoke or just enjoy a beer with the locals.

Don't miss it! Route 66 is, afterall, an icon of American culture!
